Jamarius Joshua Woods Death: 19-Year-Old Fatally Shot in Shelby, North Carolina
The Shelby, North Carolina, community is mourning the tragic death of Jamarius Joshua Woods, 19, who was fatally shot Friday evening, September 18, 2026. Woods, a Shelby resident, died after suffering a gunshot wound in the 2100 block of Green Oak Drive, leaving family, friends and members of the community grieving the sudden loss of a young life.
According to the Shelby Police Department, officers responded to the area at approximately 8:09 p.m. after receiving reports that a person had been shot. When officers arrived, they found Woods lying in a driveway with a single gunshot wound.
Police officers, Cleveland County EMS personnel and Shelby Fire & Rescue crews immediately attempted lifesaving measures. Despite their efforts, Woods succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities said the shooting was an isolated incident and that there was no ongoing public safety threat connected to the case.
Shortly after the shooting, Shelby police officers encountered a person matching the description of the suspected shooter approximately half a mile from the scene. The individual was taken into custody without incident. Police later identified the suspect as 19-year-old Kobe Deshawn Flack, also of Shelby.
Flack was subsequently charged with first-degree murder in connection with Woods’ death. The charge is an allegation, and the case remains subject to the judicial process as the investigation continues.
