Donald Johnson and Shelly Johnson Death, Obituary: Gardnerville Couple Killed in Tragic Motorcycle Crash
The Gardnerville community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Donald Johnson, 60, and Shelly Johnson, 50, who died Saturday afternoon in a devastating motorcycle crash in Douglas County.
The couple was riding together when their journey came to a tragic end in a head-on collision near Kimmerling Road and Country Lane. Their sudden deaths have left family, friends and others who knew them grieving the loss of two lives that were closely connected through love, family and shared memories.
The fatal crash occurred at approximately 4:05 p.m. on September 19. According to authorities, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office deputies were responding to a reported verbal domestic disturbance when they encountered a vehicle believed to be connected to the incident traveling at a high rate of speed.
Deputies attempted to stop the vehicle, but authorities said the driver continued fleeing. During the pursuit, the driver reportedly attempted to pass another vehicle near Kimmerling Road and Country Lane.
The vehicle crossed into the oncoming lane and collided head-on with the motorcycle carrying Donald and Shelly.
Both Donald and Shelly were pronounced dead at the scene. The fleeing vehicle subsequently left the roadway and struck a tree.
The driver was identified as 30-year-old Gerardo Adame-Lopez of Reno. He suffered severe injuries in the crash and was flown to Renown Regional Medical Center for treatment.
The investigation remains ongoing. Authorities said preliminary charges under consideration include two counts each of DUI causing death, eluding causing death and reckless driving causing death.
